As a renter myself, I believe that we deserve protection from predatory increases, but we must also be fair to the small landlords and property owners who are trying to make reasonable returns on their investments.

We also have to recognize that many marginalized communities are stepping into property ownership for the first time, becoming first-generation wealth builders for their families. We want them to succeed because their success means stronger, more stable neighborhoods for all of us.

At the same time, too many working families feel locked out of the dream of homeownership. I will fight for programs that help renters move toward ownership so that more families can build equity, stability, and generational wealth.

And I’ll work to end homelessness with compassion and action by expanding supportive housing, mental health care, and job assistance because no one should be left without a safe place to live in our state.
